Receiving

From Free Geek Seattle

This page is a Work in Progress. Please help to improve it by editing or discussing its content.

What's Receiving?[edit]

Receiving is the first step in the flow of Inventory. The next step is Evaluation.

How to receive[edit]

Thank the donor and invite further engagement[edit]

We like stuff. Donors are nice enough to bring us stuff, so we are nice to them also. Donors already like us enough to give us stuff, so they might want to help out in other ways also. Perhaps we should pass out brochures or other information to them along with receipts.

Receipts[edit]

We don't yet have a standard form for this, and we might need one. FCS front desk does have a form for this. If a donor wants a receipt (and we should eventually aim for a receipt for everyone) then we can get front desk to make one... if there's anyone there.

When they bring it to us[edit]

We have a weekly workshop at FCS. Sometimes people will bring stuff in there. That's good because Evaluation can be done right then and there. Donors may also drop off at FCS' front desk at any time during the week.

When we pick it up[edit]

Some donors can't make it to a meeting, either because they are busy or because they are corporations or some other reason. In such cases we (that is, User:Elcaset or designated agent) may pick it up.

When you are picking up donations, please remember that you are representing Free Geek Seattle and yourself. Be cool!

Be respectful of donor's space[edit]

Wipe your feet, don't spit on the dog, don't smoke your tires indoors, that sort of thing.

Be respectful of donor[edit]

If you're picking up on Microsoft campus, try not to mock their filesystem. If you're picking up at Google, don't wear one of those LED hats. If you're picking up at Impinj, don't carry an RFID killer.

Where to take it[edit]

For now the only inventory-stowing area we have is at FCS. If it's not Wednesday and you don't want to keep the items in your car or house then contact User:Elcaset and we'll work something out.
