When you see the word Free capitalized like this, it refers to Free Software: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html

It's also referred to as Libre or FLOSS, FOSS or any of a great many other names. I call it Free because it's easy to type.

Free Software is not the same as Open Source software: http://www.opensource.org/osd.html
