Editing the Sidebar works differently from editing other things.

Links don't use wiki markup. Use the same text for the target you'd use normally, without brackets. If you're not sure, enter your target text appended to MediaWiki: in the titlebar instead of the current page name:

Like https://freegeekseattle.org/wiki/index.php?title=MediaWiki_talk:Sidebar&action=edit&redlink=1 becomes https://freegeekseattle.org/wiki/index.php/MediaWiki:helppage if you want to see the text of the 'helppage' target. Baroque, yes, but I don't know how to fix it.
